Why I Do This Work, and Why It Means So Much to Me

Why I Do This Work, and Why It Means So Much to Me

, by Shawni McDonald , 3 min reading time

Before I was a coach, author, or educator, I was a woman trying to find herself again. This is the story behind why I created everything I teach today, and why helping women rebuild self-trust has become my life's mission.

Why I Do This Work

If you've spent any time on my website, you've probably noticed something.

I don't spend much time talking about the people who hurt us.

I spend far more time talking about us.

Our healing.

Our mindset.

Our confidence.

Our boundaries.

Our peace.

That's intentional.

Because while another person's behavior may have changed the direction of my life...

It doesn't get to define the rest of it.

Years ago, if someone had told me I'd one day become a bestselling author, a Certified Life Coach, a CBT educator, and spend my days helping women rebuild their lives, I wouldn't have believed them.

At that point, I wasn't trying to build a business.

I was trying to survive.

Like many women reading this, I know what it feels like to slowly lose yourself.

To question your own judgment.

To explain away red flags.

To stay longer than you wanted.

To mourn the life you thought you'd have.

I know what it's like to lose more than a relationship.

I lost my confidence.

My financial security.

My health.

The future I thought I was building.

At one point, I felt like I had lost almost everything.

Including myself.

Healing didn't happen because someone rescued me.

Healing happened because I slowly began rebuilding the relationship I had with myself.

One small decision at a time.

One boundary at a time.

One difficult conversation at a time.

One honest observation at a time.

Eventually I realized something.

The greatest thing unhealthy relationships had taken from me wasn't simply time.

It was trust.

Trust in myself.

That realization became the foundation for everything I teach today.

Not because I have all the answers.

But because I've lived the questions.

I don't believe women need another person telling them they're broken.

I believe we need practical tools.

Education.

Understanding.

Compassion.

And evidence that healing is possible.

That's why I wrote my books.

Why I created my workbooks.

Why I teach practical CBT tools.

Why I built this community.

Because I never want another woman to believe she's "crazy" when she's actually confused.

Or "weak" when she's actually grieving.

Or "too much" when she's simply asking for basic respect.

Everything I create has one purpose.

Helping women rebuild the one relationship they'll have for the rest of their lives.

The relationship with themselves.

If you're here, I hope you find more than information.

I hope you find hope.

Welcome.

I'm so glad you're here.

If this is your first time here, I recommend beginning with the Survival Mode Assessment. It's one of the best ways to understand where you are today and where your healing journey can begin.
